Voces y Sentimientos is a community based participatory research project that was conducted in San Jose, California from November 2007 to April 2008. The main purpose of the project was to learn and understand the life experiences of migrant adults of Latin origin living in the United States, who are managing their diabetes without medical insurance. By providing a vehicle for the expression of their lived experiences, and by sharing it with individuals and agencies with the institutional power to exert systems and political changes, the project also intended to facilitate critical consciousness and action among health care professionals and local policy makers.
